New Modem

Mood: Happy Pleased

So I just returned my modem to comcast because I got another one from a friend. It's a Webstar DPC2100 and it's owning the old Motorola Sufboard 3100 from 4 years ago that I had. No more random timeouts on sites, solid transfers, etc. It's the same one that you get with WOW cable service.

On the way back I saw a saturn sedan (S series?) get broadsided by a red minivan (mercury I think, but i'm not sure). I tried to decipher who ran the red or whatever and by the looks of it it was the saturn. The entire passenger side was completely obliterated. The plastic door covering was on the grass and the "reinforced steel beams" were bent a good deal of the way through the console. Luckily there was no passenger or they would have been hit.

The van suffered minimal damage, although the airbags did deploy. So that was fun to stop and watch for about 10 minutes.

Blue Merle

Good fucking time.

I just got back from seeing Blue Merle @ the magic bag in Ferndale and it rocked so hard. They got a new fiddle player and this guy is so badass it's unbelieveable, I talked to him after the show. Cool dude. Luke surprised me by busting out some awsome guitar solos, since he usually plays the acoustic rhythm parts this was great. Awsome night. The opener was a local group called Green Street, they were good too. A maroon 5 kinda vibe. Somebody taped their set so hopefully I can trade or B&;P for it.

In other news, my wireless mouse needs batteries. Which I should buy if I get my check from work tomorrow, which will at that point will be like 3 days late. But I can't complain as they've been going through some shit (middle child had brain surgery) and a million other things, so I gotta be patient.

Sorry about the lack of updates, been busy workin. I just launched lastodysseyband.com (check it out of you dig progressive dream theater type stuff) and hope to launch a new one soon. The people @ eniki hosting love me :) But hopefully updates soon.

Later kids.

Public Service Announcement

I want my motherfucking penguin back.

I'm pissed. Me and DA got into a fight yesterday regarding my wallpaper Tuxism, depicting the popular linux logo Tux the penguin. Apparently, US and International copyright law isn't enough for deviantart, who says I'll need permission from Tux 2.0's creator to use the image on the site.

His site at [link] says explicityly that the image can be used for any reason and that people should credit him and The Gimp if they ask.

By this logic, you can not make any art depicting the american flag without permission from the government. No depiction of religious symbols without permission from the church, and no pictures of a building without permission from the building owner and the architect. Unbelieveable.

Here's the kicker. I did a search on DA for linux themed stuff. The only thing I found that even remotely resembles something that fits their qualifications is a guy that said he re-traced TUX. Apparently, at Deviant Art ret-racing is equal to creating something of your own. I also came about numerous TUX wallpapers, avatars, as well as other linux sybols (Debian, Gnome, Fedora, etc) NONE of whitch were considered infringements.

Bottom line, this is bullshit. Perhaps I'll get permission to use tux in my wallpapers, perhaps I'll win the lotto and buy out DA just out of spite. Perhaps I'll do nothing. I'm undecided.
